Compliance For Business

METWEE provides business rest of mind by taking over their WEEE legal obligations. This lets them focus on their core business and not their electrical waste.

Companies can transfer their legal obligation onto METWEEE through the payment of a fee based on the amount of electrical and electronic equipment they place on the market. From then onwards METWEEE will take care of all the legal requirements as per Legal Notice 63 of 2007, with these being:

  • Registering the company with the competent authority – MEPA.
  • Collecting WEEE from the Maltese market in a cost effective manner.
  • Identifying suitable reuse and recycling routes for the WEEE collected.
  • Reporting to MEPA on the recovery and recycling performance of the scheme on behalf of its members.

You have a WEEE obligation if any of the following points apply to you:

  • Manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment under your own brand
  • Resells under your own brand equipment produced by other suppliers
  • Imports electrical and electronic equipment on a professional basis into Malta
